Freshly roasted vs supermarket beans

Supermarket beans are roasted for a shelf, not for a hopper. That is the job. A bag that has to look fine months later cannot be roasted the same way as a monthly delivery.

Office coffee beans should match the month you will drink them. The difference shows up in the cup, then in how often people walk out and buy their own.

What "freshly roasted" is here

On this site it means Arico roasts locally and you finish the bag inside a month. Look for a roast date you can read. It does not mean a gold valve and the word "premium" on the front.

Coffee fades after roasting. Storage can slow that. It cannot reverse a roast that already happened last season.

What supermarket beans are doing

They are a grocery product. They compete on price, familiarity, and a flavour that holds on a shelf. Fine in a plunger at home. Often thin in a bean-to-cup machine that grinds per cup.

Price is not the tell. The roast date is, and many bags do not print one.

Why workplaces default to the aisle anyway

Someone can buy it at lunch. No account, no delivery window. That convenience is real. It is also how a warehouse tea room ends up with three opened bags, each a different blend, each half empty.

Whole beans help only if they are recent. A whole-bean supermarket bag from last season is still last season.

The freezer

Freezing a supermarket bag does not turn it into a fresh roast. Office and warehouse freezers are also full of food. The fridge is worse. Room temperature, sealed, a month's quantity is the habit that matches how Arico delivers.

If the only beans you can buy today are from the aisle, buy the smallest bag with the most recent date you can find, and change the habit next month rather than filling the cupboard "while you are there".
