Coffee machines for a gym or studio

Illustration for: Coffee machines for a gym or studio

A gym coffee machine sits next to people who have already paid for a membership. The drink is part of the visit, or it is why they stop at the café on the way in. A yoga studio, a physio gym, and a boxing shed all have the same problem on a smaller bench.

The machine has to work for a member who has never used it, and for a trainer who has two minutes between classes. That is a button, not a portafilter.

What the room usually is

A kitchenette off the floor, a corner of reception, or a bench behind the smoothie fridge. Power and a tap decide whether it works. If the only water is in the bathrooms, the machine runs from a tank someone fills, or it does not go in yet.

We put the machine in. We do not supply cups, milk, or a drinks menu. Installation is the same checklist as an office. We install around Sydney from Forestville.

Why a button belongs there

Members will not wait for a barista, and the person on reception is already taking payments. A traditional espresso machine needs someone who knows it. Pods are quick, and the capsule drawer empties every time a class lets out. Instant is why people buy a cup on the drive in. What instant really costs is that habit.

An automatic bean-to-cup machine grinds whole beans for each cup and pours at a button. Arico installs a Saeco Royal Plus. A member can use it on their first visit.

Count the classes, not the membership list

A gym of four hundred names is not four hundred cups. Count how many people are on the floor in a normal hour, guess how many take a coffee, then add the coaches. Peak is the changeover between classes, not a polite two cups spread over a day.

The office of twenty sum still works: people, times cups, times about 7 grams as a planning dose, times days open. Treat a class changeover as a burst. That is a working example. The first month corrects it.

Members and staff on the same hopper

One coffee in the machine. A tasting shelf next to the dumbbells is how the hopper fills with leftover blends. If the floor wants a change, finish the bag and change on purpose. Coffee beans for a bean-to-cup machine is that rule.

A waiting room has the same stranger-at-the-button problem. A gym adds sweat, a queue, and a class that starts in four minutes.

What it costs

You pay for the coffee, from as little as 40 cents a cup. The machine, servicing, and tech support are $0 while the monthly bean order continues. Stop ordering and the arrangement stops. How the free machine works is the terms.

If the bench is there, and someone will empty the grounds, the gym has room for a machine. The membership list does not decide that. The room does.
